Watch Out for Joker Bob is a tribute album curated by Unmarketed Products for the lead singer of Guided by Voices. It brings together a range of musicians and artists to celebrate the band’s legacy and fans. Aaron’s collage artwork called for a packaging approach that could carry the same energy: an LP that encourages a more open, non-linear way of engaging, where viewers can move through the layout from multiple entry points while still feeling cohesive and memorable on a shelf.

To contrast the textured, layered quality of the collage, the typography stays highly legible but moves in multiple directions, echoing how the artwork is composed. The layout invites a more open, “choose your own path” way
of reading, encouraging people to engage with it at their own pace.

The art-directed motion piece sets the visual tone for the Joker Bob album, featuring lo-fi, hypnotic spinning wheels that gradually reveal the artwork. Blending analog collage textures with surreal, cinematic 3D animation, it plays with perception and time to create a slightly eerie, immersive experience.

A vinyl record album cover titled 'Watch Out for Joker Bob,' featuring women in sparkly outfits, a black and white hypnotic spiral, and various collage elements including cartoon characters and vintage images, on a dark surface with scattered objects like dominoes, a toy, and a red floral fabric.
The back cover of a vinyl record album, featuring a colorful, surreal collage with a spiral design, animals with human bodies, and various objects, laid on a black surface next to red and blue fabric and small decorative items.

The photography art direction imagines the album as a playful, slightly eerie diorama, like exploring a family basement full of forgotten objects. The scene blends I-Spy–style organization with a touch of 80s vaporwave horror, grounding it in the present day.

The album feels like rummaging through a garage full of forgotten, beloved objects, so the experience was designed to reflect that sense of discovery.
